School Meals Application***Families can complete the School Meals Application online beginning July 1. This will reduce the number of paper forms your school needs to collect and it also allows the NYCDOE to process applications more quickly so that eligible students receive meal services as soon as possible. Families of students who are new to NYCDOE schools and who do not complete the application over the summer will need to pay full price for meals in September, until they complete an application to establish their eligibility for free meals.

Acceptable Forms of ID for entrance in NYC public schoolsThe New York Immigration Coalition’s (NYIC) Education Collaborative successfully advocated for the NYPD and DOE to expand the list of acceptable forms of IDs school safety agents accept at front doors to officially include Consulate ID cards and foreign passports – IDs immigrant parents have access to, particularly the undocumented. Building on this work, we have been bringing Consulate ID services directly to schools.
We kindly request your help in dispersing this information to your networks in the Bronx or Manhattan regarding our next event at: Pan American HS 1300 Boynton avenue Bronx, 10472 Sunday March 23th from 9am -3:00pm As you know, IDs are very important to the immigrant community in order to have access to vital services, city agencies, and financial institutions. Consular cards are picture IDs with a NYC address that parents and high school/college students can use to open bank accounts, get a tax payer ID number (for filing taxes and FAFSA forms), and use as a personal ID to gain access to schools and other institutions that require ID. As part of our efforts to inform communities of the recent developments on immigration reform, Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice will be presenting the most up-to-date information on Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) proposals and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Our friends from Garifuna Coalition and Hands Community Center will be providing free DACA screenings. Additionally, we will have workshops and information on legal and adult education, as well as college readiness. On Sunday, March 23rd, 2014, the consulates of Ecuador, and Mexico will be providing passports, consular ID's and other certifications, information or limited services will be provided by the consulates of Perú and Guatemala. |
