Kwaneicia Burke (sophomore): Smack Mellon Photography Internship
At the beginning of the school year Kwanecia Burke approached Ms. Schneck about learning more about art forms such as videography. She has not had art since 7th grade. Ms. Schneck helped her with an application for the Arts Ready after school arts program at Smack Mellon. She was accepted and has been going to Brooklyn every Wednesday to work with artists, going on cultural outings with her peers from around the city and creating her own artwork. Onika Gregory: Won the School Health Wellness Poster contest
Onika's artwork has been selected as the middle school runner-up entry in the 2014 School Wellness Poster Contest! Onika Gregory’s design will be featured on the DOE website and on posters and calendars that will be distributed to schools citywide. Your school will receive $250 worth of instructional materials of your choice that support physical education and health education programs. This can include fitness, recreation, and/or adaptive physical education equipment from DOE contracted vendors, including Flaghouse. |
Amandeep Kaur (sophomore): NYU Tisch program for photography and Mount Sinai Summer Fruit Fly Genomics
NYU Tisch Future Image Making: Working with the professors and students of NYU in addition to other high school students from all over New York, I got a chance to represent myself through the art of photography. In the program we had the opportunity to work on many unique projects that were exhibited at the NYU Tisch building for many to observe the art of us new-bees. Mount Sinai Summer Fruit Fly Genomics: This laboratory project program teaches the fundamentals of designing and carrying out all aspects of a scientific investigation. This is a chance for students to work with living organisms and carry out a successful experiment.
