Code of Conduct
The aim of The Young Women’s Leadership School of Queens is to develop in each individual a sense of responsibility. The Code of Conduct is intended to give students as much freedom as possible within a limited set of rules. Violation of this code will be met with disciplinary action. In addition to the Code of Conduct being distributed separately, this handbook contains a synopsis of core non-negotiable policies.
1. Leaders do not engage in fighting or physically aggressive behavior. Such conduct is grounds for suspension and possible expulsion.
2. Leaders do not engage in academic dishonesty of any form.
3. Leaders do not run in the halls or on the stairs, do not block access to staircase and, when opening doors to the staircase, are mindful of those coming down the stairs.
4. During a fire drill or shelter drill, leaders behave as one should in a real fire -- keeping calm and maintaining absolute silence.
5. Leaders are considerate of the housekeeping staff and of all other adults and students who are part of the school community. Each of us, students and staff alike, are responsible for keeping halls, stairways, and rooms neat.
6. Leaders will leave rooms and facilities as tidy as they would wish to find them.
7. Leaders will be helpful to any visitors or members of our local community.
8. Leaders will not congregate at the front entrance to the building; they will be courteous to people entering and exiting the building and considerate of those in adjacent offices.
9. Leaders will be mindful of others in the building, especially when they are moving between classes. Students will take an active, considerate role in keeping a clear path open in our corridors.
10. Leaders will be careful in their choice of words. Some language may be hurtful and offensive to others. Offensive language has no place in our school.
