FAQ'S (frequently asked questions)
What does student government do?
- The student government is the voice of the student in our school. Representatives speak with and listen to the students in their grade and work on projects that reflect the need and wants of the school. As student leaders, representatives will be responsible for planning and implementing events, programs, and initiatives.
Can I be a student representative?
- Yes! The student government will include two representatives for each grade in the school. All representatives must pass their classes. You don't need to be an expert in every subject, but you do need to work very hard to improve your scores. Of course, you must not have any disciplinary issues.
Do I need a teacher to recommend me?
- You need to have a teacher as a character reference. Find a teacher that thinks you would make a good representative and have them sign the yellow brochure from the student activities board.
Will there be an election?
- Three will be a school-wide election in the first week of November. Each grade will elect two representative.
Can I campaign for my election?
- Of course! You are encourage to speak at morning meetings, create fliers, and make yourself known to your classmates. However, you must first get approval from Mr. Otto before you distribute any materials. See Mr. Otto in room 217.
What time commitments will I have to make?
- You must attend every student government meeting. They will take place every other Monday. You also must be able to attend every PTA meeting which occur in the evenings once per month. A detailed calendar will be given to all members so you can plan accordingly.
