Community Service Requirements
A service requirement was implemented to provide students the opportunity to integrate their academic program with the expectancy of learning in the larger community. TYWLS requires students to complete 25 hours of community service per year, or a total of 150 hours of community service before graduation at the end of the 12th grade. Service learning allows students to develop self awareness, communication skills, and problem solving skills. Service learning may also develop a better understanding for cultural differences, sensitivity for issues of disadvantaged people, and an awareness of the resources and needs of our community. Students can work at TYWLS, but are encouraged to work in programs in health services, tutoring, educational, and recreational programs.
